Oregon

Rob and I took a trip to Oregon this last weekend. We found a great deal on airline tickets through Allegiant Air and wanted to go skiing somewhere that has real snow. Not Flagstaff snow. I have an aunt and uncle who live near Portland so we stayed with them for a few days. We had so much fun!

My Aunt Sue took us to the coast and we walked around a little beach village, Cannon Beach, and had fish & chips. We walked along the beach a little bit and enjoyed the ocean air, but not the cold water. Then we went home through Astoria and went up in the Astoria Column for a great view of the coast. Aunt Sue is a great tour guide. She seemed to know everything about the history of the places we went.

That night Emily took me out to downtown Portland to show me around. Rob decided he was too tired and went to bed so it was a girl's night out. We walked around 23rd Street and stopped in at a McMenamins restaurant, then went to Moonstruck Chocolate, Portland City Grill, VooDoo Donuts, and walked along the waterfront. I had the BEST Kung Pao Calamari at Portland City Grill! It was so good! And it was happy hour so it was only $6. VooDoo Donuts is a very different kind of donut shop. They make a maple donut with bacon on top along with some other very strange combinations.

Saturday we went skiing with my cousin, Blair, at Mt. Hood Meadows. It's so different than Snow Bowl in Flagstaff! It's like comparing a miniature golf course to Disneyland. Meadows is huge! It takes longer than 10 minutes to get down most of the runs and the lift lines move fast. It snowed the whole time we were there. I didn't get cold until about 5 and was ready to quit. My uncle, Craig, took us to the Columbia employee store where I bought a new jacket and ski pants. I love them! They kept me warm and dry. You have to have a special pass to get into the employee store and he has a friend that gives him one every once in a while. That was a highlight for me, since I have been wanting new ski pants.

Sometime on Saturday I realized I didn't know where my camera was and haven't been able to find it since. That was the only bad part of the trip.

I also made my cousin Steven show me the part in Twilight where he is visible as an extra. He walks by Edward in the cafeteria scene and is standing in the background of a few shots. I would have never been able to pick him out on my own.

Sunday we flew home, picked up the kids from my parents, and watched the Superbowl. The kids had a great time with my parents. They had a busy weekend with the Glendale chocolate festival, cleaning the church building, a carnival at Megan & Kailee's school, and flying kites.

I saw voodoo donuts on the food network. Right when I saw the bacon donut I remebered. I can't recall which show though. Looks like fun!
